A bus collided with a semi-trailer truck on the Australia’s Gwydir Highway near Glen Innes in northern New South Wales recently, killing the bus driver, and injuring several passengers.
A BUS driver has died and several passengers were injured after the bus collided with a truck in northern New South Wales.
The driver of the bus died at the scene of the crash, which happened on the Gwydir Highway near Glen Innes about 3.35pm (AEDT) today, while several of his passengers were treated for minor injuries.
The truck driver will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
The Gwydir Highway between Glen Innes and Grafton is closed and diversions are in place.
NSW Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian expressed her condolences to the family of the bus driver.
The driver had worked for a bus company contracted to provide the service to CountryLink, Ms Berejiklian said in a statement.
"My thoughts are also with the injured passengers after this terrible accident," she said.
"The circumstances will be thoroughly investigated."
Points to consider:
Consider that generally accepted procedures entail that upon arriving at the scene of a vehicle accident with possible entrapment, responders shall determine the best placement for the responding vehicles to ensure the protection and safety of all personnel operating on the scene. Additionally prior to commencing operations the incident commander (IC) should size up the situation to determine, the number and type of vehicles involved stability of vehicle(s), number of victims, if hazardous materials are present, and if enough resources are available. In addition the IC should consider the expansion of the ICS to include a Medical Sector to decide where to set-up both triage and treatment areas.
