SECURITY OFFICERS FOR SHIPPING COMPANIES (CSO) COURSE

Duration: 8 days

The Company Security Officer (CSO) should have knowledge of, and receive training in some or all of the following, as appropriate:

  • Methods of ship security surveys and inspections

  • Emergency preparedness and response and contingency planning
  • Instruction techniques for security training and education, including security measures and procedures
  • Handling sensitive security related information and security related communications
  • Knowledge of current security threats and patterns
  • Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices
  • Recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
  • Techniques used to circumvent security measures
  • Security equipment and systems and their operational limitations
  • Methods of conductions audits, inspection, control and monitoring
  • Methods of physical searches and non-intrusive inspections
  • Security drills and exercises, including drills and exercises with port facilities
  • Assessment of security drills and exercises
  • Securing the facilities of the company - permanent and temporary facilities
  • Cooperation with security factors outside the company - national and civil security factors
  • Enlistment, categorizing, professional teaching and guiding for security offices in ships
  • Writing of working procedures and security procedures
  • Control, supervision and current exercising of the security system on the company ships
  • Simulation of emergency situations
  • Surprise concluding exercise - guided exercise
