Terrorism Facebook: The New Weapon Against Al-Qaeda
By Steve Connor

terrorism facebook Intelligence agencies are building up a Facebook-style databank of international terrorists in order to sift through it with complex computer programs aimed at identifying key figures and predicting terrorist attacks before they happen.

By analysing the social networks that exist between known terrorists, suspects and even innocent bystanders arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, military intelligence chiefs hope to open a new front in their "war on terror".

The idea is to amass huge quantities of intelligence data on people n no matter how obscure or irrelevant n and feed it into computers that are programmed to make associations and connections that would otherwise be missed by human agents, scientists said.

The doctrine is already being actively pursued in Iraq and Afghanistan where thousands of people have been arrested and interrogated for information that could be fed into vast computerised databanks for analysis by social network programs.

Message from SSI President, Henry Morgenstern:

Unfortunately, after November, with the growing demand on other SSI projects, I will no longer be in a position to put my contacts and knowledge of Israel at the disposal of SSI's Homeland Security Training Program in Israel. Of course, I want to continue. We have taken more groups to Israel during the past 6 years than any other group and have a trained a cadre of more than 400 people on how that country deals with the terror threat. This means that there are no further trips scheduled for the 2010 period.

I am urging you to enroll now in the November trip because it seems like it will be the last. This will be your last opportunity to allow the experts to show you how to deal with the threat of terror in your jurisdiction.

My best wishes to you and stay safe,
Henry Morgenstern

Study Warns of Cyberwarfare During Military Conflicts
By Jeanne Meserve

cyber warfare military conflicts
An independent research group predicts that cyberwarfare will accompany future military conflicts and is recommending international action to blunt its impact.

The nonprofit U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit studied the cybertactics used against the country of Georgia during its military conflict with Russia last year. Cyberattacks in August 2008 shut down the Web sites of crucial Georgian government agencies, the media and banks.

"The Russians have developed a model here that is very effective," said Scott Borg, director of US-CCU. "We can expect to see the Russians use it in the future, and other countries as well."
Because of the sensitive nature of much of the information, the full 100-page report is being released only to U.S. government officials and selected cybersecurity professionals. CNN was provided a nine-page summary.

Test of TImes Podcast Interview: Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge

On this week's Political Punch Podcast, we spoke to Department of Homeland Security's first Secretary, Tom Ridge, whose new book "The Test Of Our Times: America Under Siege... And How We Can Be Safe Again" has drawn some notice and criticism.

You can listen to the podcast on iTunes or by clicking HERE. The podcast was produced by Huma Khan and Lindsey Ellerson.
In his book, Ridge recalls wondering whether a push by Bush administration officials to raise the threat level just before the 2004 election was based in politics or national security concerns.
Ridge recalls a Cornell University study that found President Bush's approval rating increased by nearly three percentage points each time the government issued a terror threat. He then recalls a conversation Cabinet officials had following the release of a video message from Osama bin Laden.

Building a Ready and Resilient Nation
Posted by Secretary Janet Napolitano

National PreparednessToday marks the beginning of National Preparedness Month, an opportunity for our nation's families and communities to discuss their plans if they were faced with an emergency. Protecting the United States from threats like terrorism, natural disasters, and infectious diseases is a shared responsibility and everyone has an important role to play.

This effort starts in our own communities. By talking to your neighbors, friends and family about citizen preparedness - during September and beyond - we can build a culture where shared responsibility for preventing and responding to emergencies is every bit as common as planning for retirement or keeping your car and home in good repair.

Ridge: Bush Officials Sought to Raise Terror Alert Before
'04 Vote

Tom Ridge WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge says he successfully countered an effort by senior Bush administration officials to raise the nation's terror alert level in the days before the 2004 presidential vote.

"An election-eve drama was being played out at the highest levels of our government" after Osama bin Laden released a pre-election message critical of President George W. Bush, writes Ridge in his new book, "The Test of Our Times."

Attorney General John Ashcroft and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld strongly advocated raising the security threat level to "orange," even though Ridge believed a threatening message "should not be the sole reason to elevate the threat level."

The former Pennsylvania governor also writes that he saw no reason for the move, which he now calls a bad idea, because additional security precautions had already been taken in advance of the election.

Florida Law Enforcement Led on Wild Goose Chase by CAIR's Mole Inside Ohio DHS

Rifka Bary
Why couldn't Florida investigators find out the material in this pdf about the mosque attended by Rifqa Bary's parents? Because a high-placed individual didn't want them to: "BREAKING: FL Rifqa investigators were led around by CAIR's Islamist Homeland Security mole," from the Jawa Report, September 1:

Two weeks ago Florida Judge Daniel Lawson directed the Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement to investigate the Columbus, Ohio Islamic community to provide him sufficient information to accurately assess the potential threat to Rifqa Bary if she were returned to her family in Ohio.

We can now report that those FDLE investigators were led on a wild goose chase to avoid the unsavory and terror-tied elements of the Bary family mosque by CAIR's Islamist mole in the Ohio Dept. of Public Safety, Omar Alomari, director of the ODPS Office of Multicultural Affairs.
SWAT Counter Terrorism course
Unique opportunity for SWAT teams members who want to get ready to conduct Counter Terrorism Operations.

Garden Grove, CA - October 20-23, 2009  CALL NOW!

Train Hard - Play Hard!
The scope of this training is to teach SWAT team members how to conduct an operation with the special characteristics peculiar to terrorist incidents and accomplish the mission, whether there are hostages involved,  IED's,  booby traps, or suicide terrorists with maximum safety for: citizens, team members and surrounding assets. By nature, the operation may become more similar to a military operation because, as mentioned above, this is a criminal act with a strategic goal. It is part of an ideological struggle against a state or population and may be carried out by a professional team of well equipped terrorist subjects.

DHS to Increase Scrutiny of Suspicious Child Injuries
By Lee Rood

child injuriesMore suspicious injuries to children will be reviewed by paid teams of medical professionals in an attempt to thwart preventable abuse, Iowa's human services chief said Monday.

Department of Human Services Director Charles Krogmeier said the small teams of medical professionals he is creating will provide "a quick and authoritative review" in instances where there is disagreement over the cause of a child's injuries.

Krogmeier outlined the change in a letter sent Monday to Gov. Chet Culver.

The change came on the same day that two Des Moines parents - Jonas Neiderbach and Jherica Richardson, both 20 - were arraigned on felony child endangerment charges in connection with their infant son's near-fatal injuries in June.

Al Qaeda Video Calls on Muslims to Support Militants
support militants

Al Qaeda's second-in-command called on Pakistanis to back Islamic militants in the country's tribal areas against what he called an ongoing assault by American "crusaders" and the Pakistani army.

Punishment from God was promised for Muslims who did not follow the words of Ayman al-Zawahiri in a video that appeared on radical Islamist Web sites Thursday.

"The war in the tribal areas and Swat [Valley] is an inseparable part of the crusaders' assault on the Muslims the length and breadth of the Islamic world," al-Zawahiri said in the video, titled "Path of Doom."

"This is the battle, briefly and plainly; and this is why anyone who supports the Americans and Pakistan army -- under any pretext, ploy or lie -- is in fact standing with, backing and supporting the crusaders against Islam and Muslims."

Russians Mark 5 Years Since Beslan School Tragedy
By Mike Eckel

russia BESLAN, Russia (AP) -- Tuesday would have been Georgy Daurov's very first day of school. His mother, Svetlana, scoffed at the idea that the passage of time could ease the sorrow of losing her 2-year-old son five years ago in Russia's worst terrorist attack.

"Time heals all wounds - the person who thought that up never had anyone die, never mind a young son," she said, tears streaming down her face. "We live with this every day of our lives."

The ragged wails of mothers, fathers, grandparents and neighbors echoed again out the jagged roof and broken windows of Beslan's School No. 1 on Tuesday. What is the first day of school for millions of children around Russia will forever be a day of unspeakable grief in this small town in the turbulent North Caucasus.

Thirty-two heavily armed militants seized the school on Sept. 1, 2004, herding more than 1,000 men, women and children into the gymnasium - including parents and younger siblings who had accompanied the school-age boys and girls.

Lockerbie Letters Between Downing Street and Scottish Executive to be Made Public

LockerbieThe Government is to publish "all relevant" correspondence with Scotland over the release of the Lockerbie bomber, amid tension between the administrations over his release.

Exchanges between ministers at Westminster and their counterparts in Edinburgh relating to Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi will be made public on Tuesday.

The letters could quell allegations that Downing Street put pressure on the Scottish administration to release Megrahi.

Both sides have been forced to make the documents public after persistent allegations that the bomber's release was linked to lucrative trade deals with Libya.

The Scottish Government had earlier signalled it was willing to publish letters relating to the decision but complained that the UK Government was refusing permission to make the correspondence public.
