As Floridians, we want to take this opportunity to send our best
wishes to all those friends that have been affected by Hurricane
Katerina. As we send this edition, we think of Law Enforcement, First
Responders and Medical personnel in those states, and the many members
of the public that have seen the worst of this one. Our thoughts go
out to you.
Editorial: Time to take care of business...
In the wake of the attacks on London in July, many in the USA have
come to believe that the time we have now is irreplaceable - we have
time before further attacks to really become efficient at
counter-terror. One colleague who has worked with US and World law
enforcement agencies put it this way: "You have the great privilege of
establishing force cooperation, smooth intelligence sharing, and train
forces to confront the terror threat and harden targets while you
are not under attack. Imagine how difficult to do these things when
you are under attack constantly."
We believe the time has come to take things very seriously - and
most Law Enforcement and First Responders certainly do. But we hear far too many stories
about decision makers believing that this will not happen in "their
backyard" and far too little support for our First Responder community
in confronting the challenges they have to face.
